Hi, I'm Morgan Lewis
Growing up in northern California surrounded by unique native habitats like baylands, redwood forests, and foggy Pacific coastlines instilled in me a deep love for nature. I find inspiration in the natural history of California and particularly the central coast where I now call home.
I paint birds because I want to draw awareness to their lives and promote their conservation. I am also fascinated by the ecological interactions between birds and their habitats; the way that they become part of a place.
As a disabled artist with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, I face and adapt to challenges by making art that is accessible to me in the moment. My current favorite mediums are oil paint, gouache and watercolor.
I have always felt a need to create in some form, but only began to pursue visual art more seriously after other jobs were no longer accessible to me. I founded my art business, Ripple in the Wild, in 2022. I spend my days painting, hanging out with my dog Marnie, and watching birds in the oak woodland where I live.
